40. Constellation – Eridanus, the river

Eridanus, the river, is the longest constellation on the sky with a multitude of stars.

In Greek mythology Eridanus represents the tears shed by Heliades at the death of her brother Phaethon and placed into the River constellation to console Apollo, his father. The story tells that Phaethon tried to run the Apollo’s chariot of the Sun in order to prove his friends that he was Apollo’s boy, but he lost the control and because it could hit the Earth, he was struck by Zeus and died.

Achernar is the only bright star from Eridanus, located at the end of the river, in the southern hemisphere.

41. Constellation – Pegasus, the winged horse

Pegasus, the winged horse, was created from Medusa’s head when she was killed by Perseus. The head fall into the sea, realm of Neptune, and Pegasus was born. It was the symbol of power, speed, thunder, bravery.

Symbolism

– mental powers, oratory skills.

Markab is the brightest star from Pegasus, located in horse’s shoulder.
