Cosmic Influences on Human Behavior

cosmic influences bookMichel Gauquelin (1928-1991) was a French psychologist and statistician who wrote several books which represent the most important scientific support that astrology has received up to the present. Through his astrological-statistical studies he proved that the position of planets at birth is linked with one’s destiny. During his life, Gauquelin’s researches, especially “The Mars Effect”, stirred up many debates in the scientific community. In 1976 the Belgian Committee PARA confirmed the results obtained by Michel Gauquelin with “The Mars Effect”, but rejected the interpretations of the results, while in 1982 The French Committee for the Study of Paranormal Phenomena took a new research on 1066 French athletes, didn’t accepted Gauquelin’s observation about centering the study to important champions not ordinary athletes, and showed that “The Mars Effect” does not exist. The war between science and astrology generated another episode, but this time astrology was closer than ever

After 20 may 1991, when he committed suicide, his work was continued by his first wife, Francois Gauquelin, Andre Barbault and other astrologers. He was a pioneer in astrological research, one who let us a valuable legacy which can be used like a model in our way to prove that astrology not only works, but is by herself a science. His most representative book is Cosmic Influences on Human Behavior, published in 1985 by Aurora Press.

Chapter 1. Is the Universe Astrological represents an introduction for the rest of the book which treats the relation between Cosmos and humans.

Chapter 2. The Return of the Planets presents some discoveries made in the mid-1900s about the radio waves and magnetic tails. Also a little story about the life of Louis XVI, the “Sun King”, which ends with the question “Had the planet Jupiter rising at birth an effect on his life?”. The answer in the next chapters!

In Chapter 3. The Gold Nugget the author explains the statistical method he used, how he divided the natal chart in 36 sectors – Gauquelin sectors – and the first anomaly discovered in his studies: in the charts of famous doctors Mars and Saturn is rising or culminating more often than regular. In this chapter we find a principle characteristic for all his research activity: the most important planetary positions in natal charts are the areas between 0-30 degrees before the Ascendant and MC, namely the Gauquelin sector 1-3 and 10-12.

Chapter 4. The Stars and Success begins with two new concepts for astrologers: slack and busy hours. Busy hours are that period of time when a planetary position (for example Mars in near the Ascendant) is found more often that theoretically should be found and slack hours are the reverse. The research made by Gauquelin shows that appear important correlations between the planetary positions and the profession of successful people. The differences appear mainly in Gauquelin sectors 1,2,3 and 10,11,12 which falls in houses 12 and 9(!), if we use the most common house systems, except Whole Sign Houses. This is an important observation.

Then we can see the results, which are really interesting: busy hours before Ascendant and MC is found for the Moon on writers and politicians, for Jupiter on politicians, actors, journalists and soldiers, for Mars on soldiers, champions athletes, business executives and doctors, for Saturn on doctors and scientists. Slack hours before angles is found for the Moon on soldiers, sportive champions, for Jupiter on doctors and scientists, for Mars on musicians, painters and writers, for Saturn on doctors, journalists, painters and writers. Those statistical results validates the astrological lore associated with these planets. Another important note by Gauquelin tells that those results are found only on important, well-known people from those professions, not on ordinary people!

Testimonies for Urania

uraniaMythological lore

The Muses in Greek mythology are the goddesses who inspire the creation of literature and the arts. Originally said to be three in number, by the Classical times of the 400s BC, their number had grown and become set at nine goddesses who embody the arts and inspire the creation process with their graces through remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music, and dance. According to Hesiod’s Theogony, they were daughters of Zeus, the second generation king of the gods, and the offspring of Mnemosyne, goddess of memory. The nine Muses are: Calliope (the ‘beautiful of speech’), Clio (the ‘glorious one’), Erato (the ‘amorous one’), Euterpe (the ‘well-pleasing’), Melpomene (the ‘chanting one’), Polyhymnia (the ‘[singer] of many hymns’), Terpsichore (the ‘[one who] delights in dance’), Thalia (the ‘blossoming one’) and Urania (the ‘celestial one’).

Urania is the muse of astronomy and astrology. She is usually depicted as having a globe in her left hand. She is able to foretell the future by the arrangement of the stars. She is dressed in a cloak embroidered with stars and keeps her eyes and attention focused on the Heavens. Those who are most concerned with philosophy and the heavens are dearest to her.

The asteroid Urania (discovered 1854) is named after this muse.

Testimonies for Toro

toroMythological lore

For this asteroid we don’t have any mythological history, he is named after Mrs. Samuel Herrick (a United States Representative from Ohio). Was discovered in 1862 and, due to resonance, is sometimes called "Earth’s second satellite".

          Martha Lang-Wescott analysis

“Toro is Ernest Hemingway heaven… think of Spain and corridas and the streets crowded with men who prove their courage in the running of the bulls. Test of testosterone![…] It is attempting to use force to get your way. It’s being “pushy” and overly assertive or aggressive.[…] It also making with the muscles or doing the bull work. […] The positive Toro is competitive and assertive (through the Sign, House and Aspect Pattern). Where Toro aspects more passive energies (such as the Moon, Venus, Neptune or retrograde planets) or is tied in a highly stressful Aspect Pattern, the individual has used these planet to defend him or herself from the anger, violence or pushiness of others. […] The retrograde Toro has been on the hard or receiving end of aggressions and tends to prefer non-violent approach. […]Positive Toro individuals show the strength through competition (often being involved, at some time in the life, in competitive sports.) They can be intimidating almost unintentionally; […]By transit, Toro equates to “storm trooper tactics” regarding the planet being transited. Transit to Toro are situations and people to which one reacts brusquely  and aggressively; anger can easily slip out of proportion.”

Mechanics of the Future – Asteroids, 1988

It is clear that is about energy, anger, courage, commitment, involvement, strength, challenges or competition. Let’s see what we can add here!

Aspect: Toro conjunction Moon and Jupiter, square Mars(-0,59)

Latitude: -3,2

M. Lang-Wescott analysis (Toro and Moon): to feel bullied by the mother; to have relationship struggles with others because they are macho, angry or unresponsive to one’s needs and vulnerability; to see the mother be the victim of threats and physical intimidation; to see anger as a reaction to a emotion; to become aggressive instead of dealing honestly with feelings; domestic abuse; emotional abuse.

Nothing very important happened… The subject had an unexpected quarrel with one of his colleagues and, because it was his superior, he was forced to do something that he didn’t wanted. It caused him a bad mood in that day.

Conclusion: This event is similar with what M. Lang-Wescott wrote. Is about a conflict, an unexpected conflict which happens at the office. Not at home, but I think this can be explained with the presence of Jupiter there. Of course, one can’t be sure that Toro generated this aspect, could be a lot of other minor aspects capable of producing that, but we will be able to judge this more clear in the future, when more examples will be presented here. I will give a 7/10 for this match.

Testimonies for Eurydike

eurydikeMythological lore

In Greek mythology, Eurydice was an oak nymph or a sweet maiden. She was the wife of Orpheus. Orpheus loved her dearly; on their wedding day, Orpheus played songs filled with happiness as his bride danced through the meadow. One day, a satyr had seen her and pursued her. Eurydice stepped on a snake and fell to the ground. The venomous snake had bitten her, leaving Eurydice dead. Distraught, Orpheus played and sang so mournfully that all the nymphs and gods wept. In their saddened states, they told him to travel to the Underworld and retrieve her. Orpheus did so, and by his music softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone, his singing so sweet that even the Erinyes wept. In another version, Orpheus played his lyre to put the guardian of Hades, Cerberus, to sleep. It was then granted that Eurydice be allowed to return with him to the world of the living. But the condition was attached that he should walk in front of her and not look back until he had reached the upper world. In his anxiety, he broke his promise, and Eurydice vanished again from his sight—this time forever.

The asteroid Eurydice (discovered 1862), is named after this goddess.

Martha Lang-Wescott analysis

She does not present this asteroid in the book  "Mechanics of the Future – Asteroids", from 1988, but in "Angles and Prediction", 2007. Probably, she didn’t take in account Eurydice in 1977. In "Angles and Prediction" are presented only the aspects with other planets and asteroids and, we can see, that everything is connected with the verb "depend". It seems like Eurydice brings a dependence from whatever is symbolized by planet or asteroid with whom she is connected."Depend on" is the key for understanding Eurydice!

Again, the two points of view are not matching. The mythology don’t tell anything about dependence in this case.

Let’s see what we can add here!

Aspect: Eurydice (retrograde) conjunction Mercury (from +0,1 to -0,47)

Latitude: +1,07

M. Lang-Wescott analysis: people depending on their siblings; dependence on cars or a mean of transportation; some actions will depend on a certain paperwork, a conversation or the ability to get one`s point across; people hitch their star to “mental products” and to the way their brain explains the world to and for them; there may be much talk about various forms of “dependency”.

Events: In those days, the subject was trying to build a web site, but he didn’t know to use any of the web sites software. Even he knew how the site will look like, he couldn’t do anything! It was like he was bound hand and foot!  So, he had to learn some programs which helped him to accomplish his goal.

Conclusion: The dependency of learning to use a software was obvious. I think it is clear that learning to use software is an activity symbolized by Mercury. Very simple now, represents dependency on Mercury, exactly like in Martha Lang-Wescott book, so I will give 10/10 points for this match.

Testimonies for Circe

circeMythological lore

In Greek mythology, Circe, is a Queen goddess (or sometimes a nymph, witch, enchantress or sorceress) living on the island of Aeaea. Circe’s father was Helios, the god of the Sun and the owner of the land where Odysseus’ men ate cattle, and her mother was Hecate, a goddess of witchcraft. She was sister of two kings of Colchis, Aeetes and Perses, and of Pasiphaë, mother of the Minotaur.

Circe transformed her enemies, or those who offended her, into animals through the use of magical potions. She was renowned for her knowledge of drugs. She was skilled in the magic of metamorphosis, the power of illusion, and the dark art of necromancy.

Why Asteroids Testimony?

Because every astrologer must help astrology to develop, has to give something in return for what he received.

Because, even the asteroids research it is something new, it is already proven that their influences can be experienced by us.

Because I like this kind of public research, where a lot of people can tell their experiences. In this way, the results will be based on many points of view, different than mine, and this will give conclusions much more close to, what we call, objective reality.

Because there are things that can’t be explained by our actual astrology and, I think, the asteroids research can help us in this matter. Can explain some of the events which seems to have no astrological correspondence.

Because I read Martha Lang-Wescott books about asteroids.

How will we work?

I think it is good to have some standards, something at which we can relate our observations. This can be the best book about asteroids: Angles and Predictions by Martha Lang-Wescott. So, we will write our observations and also relate them with what Martha Lang-Wescott discovered. I think this is the best way, but I will be glad to receive suggestions. You can find the asteroids in the right side!

P.S.: I think we should pay more attention to latitude which can have a big influence!
