Saturn – Neptune cycle in astrology

Saturn – Neptune  is a cycle of 35 years characterized by:

– the Neptune symbols are opposed by Saturn, which is negating them, judging, disciplining, structuring, forging thus giving a concrete dimension;

– ideals that get a concrete forms; archetypes that are brought in our reality through books, movies, games, super heroes;

– idealist or unrealistic movements; vision of a utopic society; esoteric groups;

– conflicts between religion and secularism, skepticism towards religion (God vs science conflict);

– spiritual exhaustion, lose of faith;

– to sustain faith in darkness; deep faith in face of tragic reality;

– collective experiences of tragic loss of innocent or helpless people, widespread sense of diffuse helplessness, despair, profound sorrow, resignation;

– defeat of the common ideals, death of dreams, depression;

– psychological problems are spreading: anxiety, narcissism, escapism and denial, dissociation, autistic introversion, addiction and dependency of various kind, insomnia and dream problems, physical and spiritual fatigue, concern with chronic and debilitated illnesses, post traumatic stress disorders;

– abuses of drugs;

– the theme of poisoning, pollution, toxic chemical effects;    

– oil exploitation; epidemics;

– independence movements; represents the protests of the people which don’t obey any more, a vision for the future, hope;

– communism is represented by Neptune, as a political ideology where all are equal; in many ways it proved to be an unrealistic plan; the cycle is linked with the evolution of communism;

– this cycle is linked with the evolution of communism and, especially, Russia, as is shown from the beginning of the last cycles: 1989 – fall of URSS, 1953 – Stalin’s death bring important change in URSS politics; 1917 – the October Revolution; 1882 – Marxist political parties were created in Europe; 1848 – Communist Manifesto was published in 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels – – and, probably, 2025 – the fall of Putin and defeat of Russia in the Ukraine war (this is written in 2022)

– Fall of USSR:  the Revolutions of 1989 overthrew the communist regimes in Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Romania. The Soviet Union was dissolved by the end of 1991;

a)    First conjunction (1989 – 1990) – Saturn conjunct Neptune in Capricorn

– Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin`s death of  1953 represented a new period for the evolution of communism which developed using the causes of nationalism and decolonisation in his favour;

– the Korean war in 1951-1953 and the demoralizing situation of the soldiers with endless casualties; the atmosphere is captured in the movie MASH that was released in 1970 when Saturn Neptune was in opposition; no hope situation; dark humor;

– Cuban Missile Crisis (1962), the Cold War came closest to turning into a nuclear conflict

– Fourth Arab–Israeli War (Yom Kippur War), was fought from October 6 to 25, 1973, between Israel and a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria;

–    The Great Purge was a series of campaigns of political repression and persecution in the Soviet Union orchestrated by Joseph Stalin from 1936 to 1938, characterized by widespread police surveillance, widespread suspicion of “saboteurs”, imprisonment, and arbitrary execution
–    workers movements take place in the world: United States (1934 – 1938), France (1936), in Spain a civil war (1936).

– from the socialist parties to the Russia revolution

a)    First conjunction (1881 – 1883) – Saturn conjunct Neptune in Taurus

– in many European countries the first Marxist political parties were created: “Emancipation of Labour group” was created in Russia by Georgi Plekhanov and others in 1883; French Workers’ Party was created in France by Jules Guesde and Paul Lafargue in 1880;  the Social Democratic Federation was established as Britain’s first organised socialist political party by H. M. Hyndman in 1881;

– most of the countries had their socialist parties formed and also labour unions;

– are elaborated laws that protect workers or established the work condition, the women and children protection, the social assurances;

– Marxist political parties were created in Europe

– Nietzsche announced the “death of God”

a)    First conjunction (1845 –  1847) – Saturn conjunct Neptune in Aquarius

– The Communist League was established in June 1847 in London, England. It is regarded as the first Marxist political party;

– The Communist Manifesto was published in 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, one of the most important political writings;

– The European Revolutions of 1848 (Spring of nations) were a series of general political upheavals which began in France and continued in the German states, the Austrian Empire, the Italian states, Denmark, Wallachia, Poland, and others. It was a general collapse for the traditional system, but in a year the revolutions were defeated.

b)    Opposition (1861 – 1864) – Saturn in Virgo (Libra) opposes Neptune in Pisces (Aries)

– between 1862 – 1864 take place many protests, strikes and are established many coalitions involving the working class;

– First International, an international organization which aimed at uniting a variety of different left-wing socialist, communist and anarchist political groups was formed in 1864

6.    1809 – 1846, 7 Sagittarius – first conjunction  on 1 December  1809

– the Saturn – Neptune cycle is overlapping with Saturn – Uranus (1805 – 1852) cycle

a)    First conjunction (1809 – 1810) – Saturn conjunct Neptune in Sagittarius

– in Europe, nationalism, patriotism and  solidarity were displayed as the countries were fighting together against Napoleon;

– the Spanish – American wars of independence (1808-1833) began in that period with movements in Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Mexico

b)    Opposition  (1826 – 1829) – Saturn in Cancer opposes Neptune in Capricorn

– the opposition is overlapping with Saturn – Uranus opposition (1828 – 1829) and is joining another set of aspects:  Jupiter – Neptune conjunction (1830), Jupiter – Uranus conjunction (1831), Jupiter – Saturn opposition (1832), all in a period of 5 years (1827 – 1832) marked by the revolutionary wave of 1830 – 1831, the independence of Belgium (1831), the autonomy of Serbia (1830), defeats for the old regimes in Portugal, Spain Switzerland. It is a period when bourgeoisie, capitalism, liberalism, nationalism is born. On the other hand, the workers start to appear as a social power, as protests and unions are developing.  The two powers are face to face.

– The Boston Tea Party (1773) was a protest by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government; the crisis escalated, and the American Revolutionary War began near Boston in 1775.
